Artificial Feelings

How do we implement feelings in an AI? We can simulate them using numbers. For example, battery charge is represented by a number between 0 and 100. When the number gets low, the device gets nervous and begins signaling distress. As the number gets lower the device gets increasingly frantic, flashing red lights, notifications more often, ultimately passing out in a dead feint.

One of the frontiers of AI and robotics. Feelings. How do we inflict pleasure or pain on a machine? This is not a matter of intelligence but of motivation. There are many things that go on inside a human brain besides intelligence And motivation is one of those.

What are a robot's needs?

  • battery charge
  • proximity to a battery charger
  • cleanliness
  • maintenance, lubrication
  • proximity to a maintenance center
