This is now the authentication system for logging into mySocialSecurity and the IRS.
It is a third-party company handling persons with foreign addresses.
Login.gov handles USA residents.

As of 15 Apr I am no longer allowed to login to ssa.gov with username and password, but am directed to ID.me.

As of 22 May, I discovered I can also login to my IRS account after logging into ID.me. I did not even know I had an IRS account.

To verify identity, you need:

• SSN
• two of the following:
  • passport
  • national id card
    • govt-issued id with photo (driver license?)
    • secondary:
      • utility bill
      • bank statement
  • proof of non-US-addr
    • lease
